Assessing moles and removing blemishes at HGface

Solutions for skin blemishes, scars and moles with HGface

What is a skin blemish?

A blemish is any type of mark, spot, discoloration, or flaw that appears on the skin. Skin tags, age spots, thread veins, warts and moles are just a few of the types of skin blemishes that we regularly see in the clinic, both on the face and other parts of the body.

Scarring can occur as a result of acne or chicken pox, post-surgery or as a consequence of injury.

Blemishes on the face may be emotionally upsetting, but most are benign and relatively easy to remove. Some blemishes, however, can signal skin cancer meaning that early detection and diagnosis is key.

We can assess and give advice on skin blemishes and we can offer a fast and convenient screening for assessing moles and potentially suspicious lesions through our partnership with Map My Mole.

Map My Mole FAQs

  • What is Map my Mole?

Map my Mole allows us to access UK consultant dermatologists for an opinion within 24-48 hours.  Images are reviewed by experts in the field, and reports ensure detailed explanations are provided.  If a mole is concerning, the dermatologist will inform the patient, providing them with a report that can be sent to their GP to speed up any referral

  • How it works:

    • Attend the clinic for a consultation and assessment of the mole/lesion using a dermoscope.
    • We then submit your images to be reviewed by Map My Mole’s leading consultant dermatologists.
    • Within 24-48 hours a report will be sent, which will determine whether we can remove the lesion in clinic or if further investigation or referral needs to be carried out by your GP.
  • How much does it cost?

For an assessment of up to 3 lesions:  £70.00

    Per additional lesion: £25.00

What Treatments Are Available For Skin Blemish Removal?

We offer two treatments in clinic to reduce or remove moles and other skin blemishes:

Skin Blemish Removal – Sterex® Diathermy

This is an increasingly popular, safe, effective and hygienic treatment for the removal of unsightly common skin blemishes. Sterex® Diathermy is an advanced electrolysis treatment which uses a small electrical current to quickly and painlessly tackle a wide variety of conditions such as dilated capillaries, skin tags, milia and sun spots to name but a few.

Due to the pin-point accuracy possible with Sterex®, even the smallest area can be targeted with millimetre precision with no risk of collateral damage to surrounding healthy tissue.

Sterex Diathermy FAQs

Have a question? We’re here to help.

  • What blemishes can be treated with Sterex® Diathermy?

Sterex® offers the ideal solution for:

    • Skin tags
    • Thread veins and broken capillaries (telangectasia)
    • Spider naevi and blood spots
    • White spots (milia)
    • Sun spots and age spots
    • Warts

  • What does sterex diathermy removal involve?

Different techniques are used for different blemishes, but in most cases the tip of a fine electrolysis probe (about the size of an eyelash) is used to remove or dry up and destroy the blemish.

This is not a painful treatment although some mild sensation can be felt which is best likened to a pin prick. Downtime is minimal.

  • How many sterex diathermy removal treatments will I need and how long does it last?

The length and number of treatments will vary depending on skin response and skin condition. Many skin tags and minor blemishes can be treated in one or two sessions.  Larger areas of thread veins, for example, may require multiple sessions.  Once treated, the blemish does not tend to return, however new blemishes can continue to form in susceptible skin types.

  • Who is suitable?

It is not suitable for you if you have an implanted electrical medical device such as a pacemaker or cochlear implant.

All blemish removal procedures require an in-person consultation and review of your medical history to assess suitability for treatment.

  • How much does it cost?

Single diathermy treatment session (20-30 mins)  £85.00

Packages available for multiple treatment sessions.

Cryopen®

Cryopen® uses cryotherapy to treat localised skin conditions such as warts and verrucae, age spots and moles (subject to mole screening if necessary). The Cryopen® is a device that we can use to accurately freeze the affected area with liquid nitrous oxide without damaging the healthy skin around it.

Cryopen® FAQs

Have a question? We’re here to help.

  • What blemishes can be treated with Cryopen®

Cryopen® offers the ideal solution for:

    • Skin tags
    • White spots (milia)
    • Sun spots and age spots
    • Warts and verrucae
    • Seborrheic keratosis
    • Actinic keratosis
    • Benign moles and fibromas

  • What does the treatment involve?

Cryotherapy for skin conditions involves freezing the affected area with a fine jet of nitrous oxide for several seconds, destroying the lesion.  A scab forms over the treated area, which later falls off along with the dead cells.

This is not a painful treatment although some mild, brief sensation may be felt. After treatment, downtime is minimal, although the area treated may be a little red, swollen and warm for a few hours afterwards.  Most people find that, once healed, the skin looks completely normal with no sign of where the lesion used to be.  However, occasionally cryotherapy can leave the skin a lighter colour.

  • How many treatments will I need and how long does it last?

The number of treatments will vary depending on the individual blemish. Many skin tags and minor blemishes can be treated in one or two sessions.  Larger areas of thread veins, for example, may require multiple sessions.  Once treated, the blemish does not tend to return, however new blemishes can continue to form in susceptible skin types.

  • Who is suitable?

This is a safe treatment for most people although there are a few exceptions. This treatment is not advised for you if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or if you are trying to get pregnant. It may not be suitable for you if you have impaired skin healing capability.

All blemish removal procedures require an in-person consultation and review of your medical history to assess suitability for treatment.

  • How much does it cost?

    Single Cryopen® treatment session (20-30 mins)  £85.00

Packages available for multiple treatment sessions.

Treatments for Scars

When a wound heals, it may eventually turn into a scar. Scars come in numerous forms and may be caused by injuries, acne, burns, stretch marks or surgery. Very often the appearance of a scar can be visibly improved by certain skin treatments that promote wound healing and regeneration of collagen.
